Life intervened, however, when he suffered a life-threatening head injury playing for Hull City in January 2017.
Ryan faced a long road to recovery after being saved by top medics, with Rachel by his side every step of the way.
The England international was forced to retire after his injury, with Rachel writing at the time: “Life doesn’t always go to plan, but you have to find the positives in a negative situation.”
From a dark situation came a ray of light for the couple, when they welcomed a baby boy in the meantime, and subsequently a baby girl.
