RYAN MASON has undergone surgery after a horror collision with Chelsea skipper Gary Cahill left him with a fractured skull.

The midfielder is now in a stable condition as good will messages poured in for Mason who has had the football world clinging on for any news on his state of health.

Mason joined Hull City from Tottenham for £13m last summer in a search for more game time after only eight league starts for his former employers last season

The 25-year-old, born close to the club in Enfield, north London, joined the Spurs academy at eight before signing on professional terms in 2008 – he made his debut as a late sub coming on for David Bentley in the group stage of the Uefa Cup against NEC in November 2008.

But the midfielder had to wait for regular game time at Spurs – after that debut he wouldn’t play for the club again for more than four years.

Between 2008 and 2012 he went on numerous loan spells.

He played 29 matches for Yeovil Town in 2009-10 before spells in the Championship with Doncaster Rovers and Millwall.

In a more surprising move, Mason went on loan to French club Lorient in 2012-13 – but failed to make a single appearance.

After another decent loan spell at Swindon Town in League One in 2013-14, Mason was back at Spurs.

He went on tour with the first-team squad to the US and impressed new manager Mauricio Pochettino, forcing himself into the Argentinian’s first-team plans.

Mason made his Premier League debut in September 2014, on s a sub in the 1-1 draw with rivals Arsenal.

Mason played 37 games in all that season, scroing his first goal for the club in a January win over Swansea.

His impressive club form saw Roy Hodgson invite him into a number of England squaDS

Mason got his first England cap on 31 March 2015 after coming on for the injure Adam Lallana in a 1-1 draw with Italy – setting up the equaliser for then team-mate  Andros Townsend.

But the next season saw Mason drop down the pecking order at White Hart Lane, starting just eight Premier League matches as Eric Dier impressed in a midfield role.

Mason played a total of  53 times for Tottenham.

This season Mason has suffered from a couple of injury problems that has seen him start only 11 of Hull’s 22 Premier League matches.

After a spell on the sidelines in December, Mason had started the last four for Hull, with the club beating Swansea in the FA Cup and Bournemouth in the Premier League.

The midfielder has also represented England at under-16, under-19 and under-20 level.
