Cech suffered a depressed fracture of the skull for Chelsea in 2006 against Reading in the Premier League and has reached out to Mason since his injury.

Speaking to Hull City Tigers, Mason said: “It was fantastic to speak to somebody like Petr because he has been through something similar.

“He has given me advice and he talked to me about what to expect. He’s told me not to worry about certain things, and mentally and psychologically it has been great to spend time talking to him.

“You look at what Petr came back to achieve after his head injury and it is quite remarkable.

“There are plenty of studies that look at such injuries, but you can never fully understand it until you have been in this situation yourself.

“I’m very grateful that Petr reached out to me and my family and took the time to come and see me to help us through this.”
